Do you speak with an accent?

Are you a bilingual executive who struggles with a marked accent when speaking in English? Does presenting on Zoom make it worse? Here are three quick fixes to help you communicate your authentic personality and expertise without needing to reduce your accent.

1. Substitute difficult words that will trip you up. If something is difficult to say, find another way to say the same thing.

2. Do not read. As tempting as it is to read from your screen when you are presenting virtually, the mechanics of reading only make your accent more noticeable and stiffen your delivery. Be confident in your ability to share your knowledge and authority without reading a script.

3. Speak slowly. You will enunciate better and compensate for some of the distortions that come with the audio for video conferences.
